The Margarita is an absolute icon of a cocktail. It is made from a simple mix of ingredients – tequila, cointreau and fresh lime juice – combined in an equally simple 2-1-1 ratio.
There are hundreds of origin stories where the drink was first mixed and by whom, but current thinking is that it originates from the Daisy family of drinks, which date back to the Victorian period.
Though there now are many different ways to make a Margarita, as usual, we’ve gone for the classic recipe. It’s a very refreshing way to start any evening.
Ingredients:
2x shot or a double measure of white tequila
1x shot or pony of Cointreau
1x shot or pony of fresh lime juice
1x saucer of sea salt
1x fresh lime wedged or sliced
Recipe:
Rub all the way around the rim of the Margarita glass with the lime wedge
Roll the rim of the glass through the saucer of sea salt, flakes should stick to the glass
Pour all three liquors into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until ice-cold
Strain the contents into the glass
Garnish with lime
