Snow Peak was founded by Yukio Yamai in 1958. He grew up in Sanjo City, near the heart of the Niigata prefecture, in Japan. The town is famous for blacksmithing, and the production of small metal goods.
Surrounded by mountains and rivers that flow to the East Japan Sea, this is an area in which people cherish the great outdoors. However, the wilderness is harsh, and demanding on equipment, so Yukio, growing tired of inferior kit, decided to start making his own. He wanted to create equipment so superior to anything else, that it would be handed down from generation to generation, like a fine watch.
The fireplace comes in small, medium and large sizes. The Obsessive version (shown above) is the small model. It's made from stainless steel, and is compact, sturdy and reasonably light at 1.8kg. It packs flat, and comes with its own carry case, so it's easily transported. There are also a number of accessories available for cooking.
The fireplace is packaged in a box bearing a wonderful, emotive Japanese sentence, the translation of which reads, "Luxurious time spent gazing into the flames and conversing with friends, around an earth-and-user friendly fireplace."
Couldn't have put it better ourselves.
